Storm Isaac is expected to hit somewhere along the gulf coast, in the New Orleans region. Experts are still watching the system and are expecting it to make landfall sometime this evening or Wednesday morning. The Salvation Army of Texarkana is preparing extra space in the event that there is an overflow of people seeking shelter. The Army’s shelter, the Center of Hope, has ten family units, a dorm for men and a dorm for women. Should more beds be deemed necessary for housing people, the main dining room will be opened up and transformed into a sleeping quarters as well.

The Salvation Army is not sure what exactly to expect in the way of people seeking shelter quite yet, but has learned many lessons in the wake of Katrina and feel it is better to be prepared ahead of time. The shelter is located at 316 Hazel St., Texarkana, AR, 71854.

The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to assist with meal preparations. The influx of people will require more food, toiletry items such as soap, toothpaste and deodorant, as well as toilet paper, and twin size linens. Financial support may be sent to 400 East 4th, Texarkana, AR 71854.

If you would like to know how you can help, contact The Salvation Army, 400 E 4th St, Texarkana, AR 71854. The phone number is 870-774-2701. Follow updates on Facebook at SalvationArmy Texarkana.
