It's that special time of year when The Special Olympics Arkansas State Summer Games are about to start. But before the games begin the state-wide torch run must take place. Every year the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department is proud to participate in this special run to honor the Special Olympics athletes.

Law Enforcement officers from all across the state of Arkansas will run the Flame of Hope to it's next location until it reaches its final destination at the arena at Harding University in Searcy, AR. That's where the Opening Ceremonies will take place on Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

We can see the Summer Games Torch Run Southwest Leg as it will start here in Texarkana on Monday, May 9th. It will all begin at 9 AM at the Arkansas Wal-Mart parking lot located at 133 Arkansas Blvd.

Texarkana Arkansas Police Department officers will run over 18 miles before the official 'handing over the torch' to law enforcement officers at the Hempstead County line.

 

According to a press release,

The LETR movement is essential to the success of Special Olympics Arkansas as they not only volunteer their time to help our athletes, they also organize fundraisers in their local communities for Special Olympics and will raise over $500,000 each year for the Special Olympics Arkansas program.
