A search is under way for inmate Jeremy Pifer, 36, who walked away from his work detail at the Southwest Arkansas Community Correctional Center before noon Thursday in Texarkana.

Pifer had been at the facility since February on residential burglary charges. Pifer is 5'8 and weighs 161 pounds. He disappeared while working with a crew.

Dina Tyler, Deputy Director of Arkansas Community Correction said,

They were picking up trash along Highway 71 around Fouke. He thought he saw an opportunity to get away so he took off running. We are looking for him and are getting a lot of help from local law enforcement in Miller County, the Arkansas State Police and the Department of Correction."

If you see Pifer, call 9-1-1 immediately.
