In 2002 a spectacular 581ct. Rough diamond was found in the Amazon River in Brazil.  It took more than 2 years for the greatest diamond cutters in Antwerp to orientate then polish the diamond, creating this magnificent 230.17ct. pear shaped diamond, the largest pear cut in the world.  In 2007 it was purchased by Steve Winn and mounted in a ridiculously amazing Cartier platinum diamond necklace mounting valued at $1,083.750 dollars, now that's just the mounting, the 231ct. diamond is not included.  Rumor has it the stone itself, which has a color grade of "H" and clarity grade "VSL", sold for more than 15 million.  According to an interview with Elaine Wynn, this one is bigger than the Hope Diamond. Here's her take on it, "It's the biggest ol' diamond that we know about and that we can get our hands on that is not in some institution.  You know, privately held."

But these days no one can hang on it a good thing for long.  In June 2011 this amazing necklace was on the auction block.  Qualified bidders were invited to a once in a lifetime opportunity to acquire the 12th largest diamond in the world.  The preview was at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas.  Here's the mystery ... so who bought it?  And what did they pay for it?  Try as we might, those answers have been eluding us?  For all we know the Wynns still own it and have it hidden in the presidential suite of an undisclosed Wynn Hotel.  If you happen to know the skinny, please let us in on the secret.
