Sound Off: Who Deserves a 2017 CMA Awards Female Vocalist Nomination?
The 2017 CMA Awards nominees are about to be announced, and we're sure there'll be some new faces along with some of the country singers we usually see nominated on Country's Biggest Night. Which country stars would you like to see nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2017 CMA Awards?
It's not hard to imagine that Carrie Underwood will receive a nomination for Female Vocalist of the Year in the 2017 CMA Awards. Although she's taken most of the year off, she scored a hit duet with Keith Urban with "The Fighter" and performed it on the CMT Music Awards, and she also reminded country fans what a great voice she really has with a powerhouse rendition of the national anthem during the Nashville Predators playoffs at a home game in Nashville.
We'd be surprised if perpetual winner Miranda Lambert doesn't earn a nod again this year with the more subtly-nuanced vocal performances she gave on The Weight of These Wings, and this may be the year we see some new blood infuse the Female Vocalist of the Year category at the CMA Awards.

Kelsea Ballerini is turning in nod-worthy work, and so is Maren Morris. Lauren Alaina and RaeLynn are two examples of younger singers who are really coming into their own and owning their own space in country music, and Cassadee Pope not only scored her first No. 1 hit in the last year, she's also a technically superb vocalist whose legitimate ability far exceeds most of her peers.
Kacey Musgraves is probably ripe for a Female Vocalist of the Year nomination, but so is Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild. A nod for Fairchild would be unusual since she's a member of a group, but she has undeniably contributed a number of one-of-a-kind vocal performances to country music, including her star turn on "Better Man," which gave LBT their most recent No. 1 hit.
Reba McEntire also gave an impressive performance on "Back to God," from her most recent gospel album. Will we see her nominated?
