A&M-Texarkana to Host Lecture on ‘Scent and Mental Health’

Texas A&M University-Texarkana and the Program for Learning And Community Engagement (PLACE) are holding a lecture titled “Scent and Mental Health” with Dr. Ben Neuman on Monday, October 28^th. The event will take place from 3PM until 4:15PM in University Center room 217. The lecture is free and open to the public.

According to the press release, Dr. Ben Neuman is an Associate Professor of Biology and Chair of Biological Sciences at TAMUT. His program will include a first-year biology lecture about the connection between what we smell, attractiveness, and mental health. Everyone who attends the lecture will have a chance to smell pheromones and learn about their effects on perception and behavior. The discussion will also include the mechanism and process by which a smell triggers a thought.

PLACE is a faculty-led program designed to create a community of learners comprised of A&M-Texarkana students, faculty, staff and the community at large. PLACE chooses an annual theme around which to organize a lecture series and other activities that provide focal points for learning and discussion. This year’s theme is “Wellness, Happiness, and Mental Health.”
