Arkansas Fatal Crash Leads to Multiple Charges of Honduran Man

On Monday, September 9, 2024, Arkansas State Police (ASP) arrested Maynor Yair Sorto-Herrera, 30, in connection with a fatal car wreck that occurred the previous morning near 10800 Arch Street in Little Rock, Arkansas. The crash claimed the life of Jennifer Ann Morton, 48, of Little Rock. All charges against Sorto-Herrera are allegations, and he remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The incident occurred on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at approximately 5:44 a.m. when Sorto-Herrera was reportedly driving a 2008 Ford F150 southbound on Arch Street. According to the investigation, the vehicle crossed the centerline into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a 2016 Honda CRV driven by Morton.

Morton, a respiratory therapist in the Infant Toddler Unit of Arkansas Children’s Hospital, tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Sorto-Herrera was found walking away from the crash site and was transported to UAMS for medical treatment. Following his release, he was taken to the Pulaski County Detention Center, where he now faces several charges, including Negligent Homicide, Battery, DUI, Violation of the Concealed Weapons Act, Reckless Driving, Driving without a License, and Failure to Stop After Accident with Death. These charges remain allegations until resolved in court.

"Our hearts are heavy for the Morton family as they are devastated by the loss of Jennifer, who devoted her life to compassionate care of children,” said ASP Colonel Mike Hagar. “I know our Troopers want to honor her memory by doing their part to make sure this man is held responsible for her death.”

According to authorities, Sorto-Herrera, a native of Honduras, was previously apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol in October 2018 near Laredo, Texas, and was removed from the United States in November 2018. His current immigration status is under review, and he is being held for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
