It could be a year of surprises for Arkansas High baseball fans.

The 2016 season is here and the Razorbacks have a young, but very eager, varsity squad. Coach Layne Berry begins his third year at the helm for the Hogs. Helping Coach Berry as his assistants are Jeff Ritter and Roger Rico.

In 2015, the Razorbacks were knocked out in the first round of the state playoffs. The team lost six starters off that team due to graduation. But there will be a lot of youth starting for the Hogs this spring. Coach Berry expects three seniors, two juniors and four to five sophomores to be in the starting line-up. He expects the infield to be made up of a lot of newcomers.

On the experienced side, the team does have its number one starting pitcher, Patrick Flanagan back. The talented Flanagan has already signed to play college baseball with Crowder Junior College located in Southwest Missouri.

Coach Berry is also expecting big things and senior leadership from outfielders Cameron Jones and Jalon Moss.

"Our conference is really tough. It is going to be fun to watch this team grow and become better ballplayers as the year goes on," Coach Berry said.
