The Arkansas High Razorback baseball team has a good group of returning players and is looking to make a lot of noise on the diamond this Spring.

The Razorbacks are hoping that experience will help them turn around from a little bit of a disappointing 2017. AHS Head Coach Layne Berry says the team lost a lot of close ballgames that did not go in their favor last year.

The good news for the Hogs is that they return 7 starters from last year's team and have  6 Seniors and 4 Juniors making up the squad. 4 Sophomores and 2 Freshman round out this years varsity team.

So far there has been a lot of bright spots in the non conference slate of games in 2018 with the Razorbacks at 7-5. Those 5 losses have been by a combined total of just 8 runs. Coach Berry says, " We are in every ballgame, just need to find ways to get that timely hit."

Berry has a stable of arms to handle the pitching chores this season, including Dylan Adcock, Gage Gore, Matthew Mobley, Austin Nix, Drake Browning, and Cody Adcock.

The team will be looking for RBI production from leadoff hitter Drake Browning, Nick Vaughn who will be batting a lot out of the 3 hole or cleanup position, same for Austin Nix. Dylan Adcock out of the 5 hole, and Wren Williams batting 9th.

Defense wins a lot of games and Berry says his Razorbacks look very solid in that phase of their game, "We have a great core of players who have been there before."

Conference play is upon the Hogs and Berry says they will be battling El Dorado, Lakeside, and Lake Hamilton.

Expectations are high for these Razorbacks this year. Coach Berry says, "We expect to finish first or second in conference this year, and make a run at a state title."

Good luck to AHS, it promises to be an exciting Spring on the baseball diamond this year.
