ASP Seizes Nearly 60 Pounds of Marijuana in Two I-40 Stops

Arkansas State Police troopers are on the job as always, and just this week seized nearly 60 pounds of illegal marijuana, THC vape products, and more than $4,500 in cash during two separate traffic stops just two hours apart on Wednesday on Interstate 40 in Pope County, Arkansas.

Stop #1 Turns Up 30 Pounds of Pot

Around 2:15 PM, troopers stopped a Nissan Rogue traveling eastbound near I-40 mile marker 72 for traffic violations.

A search of the vehicle turned up 30 individually packaged bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 30 pounds.

Troopers arrested the driver, 39-year-old Darnell Keith Russell Reed of Waynesboro, Virginia, and the passenger, 36-year-old Ashley Renee Carter, also of Waynesboro.

Troopers also seized $4,510 in cash from Carter.

Reed and Carter were taken to the Pope County Detention Center and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver. Reed was also cited for driving on a suspended license.

Stop #2 Adds Another 29 Pounds

About two hours later, around 4:15 PM, troopers stopped a Ford Bronco Sport near mile marker 77 for a traffic violation.

A search of the Bronco Sport uncovered 29 vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana weighing approximately 29 pounds, along with 100 THC vape cartridges.

Police arrested the driver, 35-year-old Jermaine Bowers, and took him to the Pope County Detention Center. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

ASP said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information is being released at this time.

As with all criminal charges, the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
