Four Arkansas High School juniors enrolled in the welding program at the University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana Secondary Career & Technical Education Center have signed with Ledwell for summer internships, giving them hands-on experience in the manufacturing industry while continuing their education.

Texarkana Students Gain Hands-On Welding Experience

The students completed two semesters of welding instruction through UAHT’s Secondary Career Center, where they trained in arc, TIG, and MIG welding. The program combines classroom learning with practical lab work designed to prepare students for careers in skilled trades.

Ledwell Partnership Creates Workforce Opportunities

Ledwell, a Texarkana-based manufacturer founded in 1946, produces custom truck bodies, trailers, and transportation equipment. The company regularly partners with schools and workforce programs to help students gain industry experience and explore manufacturing careers.

UAHT welding instructor Bob McFarland said the students have shown strong dedication and work ethic while learning advanced welding skills. He said the internships will allow them to apply classroom training in a real manufacturing environment and prepare them for future careers.

UAHT Program Helps Students Earn College Credit

The UAHT Secondary Career & Technical Education Center allows participating high school juniors and seniors to earn college credit at no cost while still in high school. Programs are offered on the Hope and Texarkana campuses and provide hands-on training in several career and technical fields.
