Bad Moon Rising Hunter’s Moon Will Light up Arkansas Skies
I don't know if I'm more excited for the cooler weather this week or the Hunter's Moon or Harvest Moon as we call it.
Hunter's Moon
🌜Harvest Moon
🌜Supermoon
Creedence Clearwater Revival had a song called " Bad Moon Rising" in the 70s, fast forward to 2024 and we have a Supermoon rising. What makes this unique is that this signifies the fall equinox a centuries-old name the Hunter's Moon or what most of us call the Harvest Moon is believed to be traditionally the arrival of the hunting season.
According to CBS News, some American Indian tribes also called the Blood Moon, Travel Moon, and the Dying Grass Moon. The full moon this week is also a supermoon because it seems larger and brighter making it one of the best moons of the year for observing with the naked eye with a telescope.
Supermoon
Supermoons only occur three to four times a year that's when the moon's position is at least 90 percent of the distance from the farthest point to Earth. This will mark the third of four supermoons this year and this one will happen on Thursday, October 17. The moon will be the closest to Earth on Wednesday at 8 p.m. central time and the full Hunter's moon should be visible for about 3-4 days.
According to NASA, depending on its orbital path the distance can range anywhere from 226, 000 and 251,000 miles from Earth. The best time for viewing the moon will be right after sunset just above the horizon barring no cloud cover.
So far this has been a very interesting year for cosmic interaction from a a full solar eclipse, a partial lunar eclipse, a comet described as a second moon, and the Northern Lights.
October Magic
Here's looking up for the Hunter's Moon or Harvest Moon hopefully we won't see or hear any werewolves howling at the moon or see a witch riding her broom across the moon.
