View the Biggest and Brightest Buck Moon July 13 in Texarkana

July 13, will be the day of the Buck Moon! No, the Buck Moon does not get its name from some guy running buck naked in the moonlight showing off his moon.

Instead, the Old Farmer's Almanac reports that the Buck Moon is named after the new antlers that emerge from a buck’s forehead around this time of the year. The Buck Moon will be the largest and brightest supermoon of the year, according to Space.com, that's because the moon will be closest to the earth, about 222,089 miles beating out the last supermoon the Strawberry Moon last month.

The full moon will appear 7 percent larger because of its proximity to the earth making for one incredible night of viewing whether it be by the naked eye, telescope, or binoculars. The moon will reach its peak illumination at 2:38 pm EST on Wednesday, July 13, and will show just below the horizon after sunset to the Southeast part of the sky.

Other names for the Buck Moon include Thunder Moon, Salmon Moon, and Feather Moulding Moon just to name a few.
