All of us have a special person in our life that opened our eyes to the wonderfully imaginative world inside a book. Who taught you to enjoy reading?

The person who did this for me was my mother. I remember her patiently waiting for me to pronounce words that seemed foreign to me but once uttered they made sense with the pictures in the book. So began my love of reading.

Sept 22-28 begins something too: Banned Book Week. Are you as interested as I to see what books some feel you should never open? Some of the titles that have been banned include Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Toni Morrison's Beloved, Jack London's The Call Of The Wild, Margaret Mitchell's Gone With The Wind and Maurice Sendak's children's classic, Where The Wild Things Are. Visit bannedbooksweek.org for a complete list and explore the possibilities of books!
