‘Big Boy’ Heartland of America Tour With 6 Stops in Arkansas

I hear the train a-coming, it's rollin' round the bend, and it won't be long before one of the World's Largest Steam Locomotive will be stopping in several towns in Arkansas.

The Heartland of America Tour is underway as the massive 1.1 million pounds Uniion Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 locomotive runs through 10 states including Arkansas in September.

Approximately 25 Big Boys were built during World War II, eight survived while No. 4014 is the only one still operating today. After being retired for almost two decades the Union Pacific steam locomotive was brought back to life with a full restoration project that took several years to complete before hitting the tracks again in 2019 for the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad.

Here are the scheduled stops in Arkansas for the 2024 Heartland of America Tour.

Arrival 3 PM - Depart 3:30 PM 201 East 4th Street

Sunday, September 15 - N. Little Rock

Private Union Pacific Event - No Public Access

Public Viewing Only from 5 PM to 7 PM 1000 West 4th Street

Monday, September 16

Kingsland, AR Johnny Cash Birthplace

Arrival 11:45 AM - Depart 12:15 PM Maple Street Crossing

It looks like the train will depart from Texarkana on September 17 on its way to Dallas, Texas according to its schedule here. It shows departure time at 9 AM. This sounds like this may be an overnight stop only but I can't seem to get clarification.

Note: Overnight Stops Locations where the Big Boy stops overnight are closed to the public due to safety and security reasons, unless otherwise noted on the schedule. Non-employees who access these locations without permission will be treated as trespassers.
