A routine traffic stop turned into much more for a Bowie County Sheriff's Deputy over the weekend.Early Saturday at approximately 1:41 a.m., Bowie County Sgt. Chris Allison was patrolling West 7th Street near Kings Highway when he observed a 2013 white Chevrolet pickup commit a traffic violation. Sgt. Allison conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 6400 Block of West 7th and made contact with the driver who was identified as Sonya Notta Littles.

Littles was accompanied by a white male acquaintance and her small child. During the course of the traffic stop and investigation, Sgt. Allison became suspicious of the possibility of narcotics inside the vehicle. Sgt. Allison removed his canine partner Barry from his patrol vehicle. He conducted a free air sniff around the exterior of the vehicle. Barry gave a positive response to finding the odor of narcotics.
A subsequent search by Sgt. Allison produced eight bags of what authorities believe to be methamphetamine and more than $9,000. Littles was arrested for possession of a controlled substance over 200 grams and under 400 grams then transported to the Bi-State Justice Building and booked into jail.
The street value of the narcotics is valued at more than $30,000. The investigation into this arrest is continuing.
