Portions of HWY 82 in Bowie County Set for Major Rehabilitation Mid-June
Bowie County residents and US Highway 82 travelers will soon see construction crews as a major roadway rehabilitation project gets underway later this month.
Work Scheduled To Begin Mid-June
According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the project will improve nearly 10 miles of U.S. 82 in two phases, which will include new pavement, updated signs, and fresh roadway markings.
The first phase will focus on a 1.8-mile stretch of U.S. 82 between Farm-to-Market Road 989 (Kings Highway) in Nash, and FM 2148. Crews are expected to begin work in mid-June. The project will include resurfacing all lanes with new asphalt concrete pavement, along with replacing signs and pavement markings.
Nighttime Lane Closures Planned
Drivers should expect nighttime lane closures during construction. Work will take place on weeknights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone.

A second phase of the project will rehabilitate more than eight miles of U.S. 82 between State Highway 8 in New Boston and FM 1398 west of Hooks. Construction on that section is expected to begin later this summer.
$10.3 Million Investment in US 82
TxDOT awarded the project to True Roads Construction LLC with a low bid of $10.38 million.
Work on both sections is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete, although the timeline could change due to weather conditions or other unforeseen factors.
TxDOT encourages drivers to slow down, stay alert, and use caution when traveling through active work zones.
If you regularly travel between Texarkana and New Boston using Hwy 82, you might consider using an alternate route during this construction time.
