Brett Young: ‘I’m Nervous, Excited’ About 2017 CMA Awards
Brett Young received his first-ever CMA Awards nomination in 2017, for New Artist of the Year -- a category he shares with Lauren Alaina, Jon Pardi, Old Dominion and Luke Combs. The singer, who released his eponymous debut album earlier this year, has also scored two No. 1 hits, toured with both Thomas Rhett and Lady Antebellum, and is currently headlining his own Caliville Tour -- all part of a year that feels a bit surreal to him.
"I’m nervous, excited," Young tells The Boot of the CMA Awards nod. "That it’s even something I have to think about is such a blessing. Nominations, awards, or even just being invited to attend, I feel so flattered and humbled. I can’t believe I get to be a part of this and I get to be there."
The fact that his first two singles, "Sleep Without You" and "In Case You Didn't Know," both became chart-topping singles, and that the third, "Like I Loved You," is in the Top 10 and still climbing, makes Young feel both "flattered" and "surprised."
"I try really hard to manage my own expectations. I don’t like to be let down," Young concedes. "It’s kind of like, how do I live the dream?"
Part of the dream, of course, is touring with his good friend, Carly Pearce. Young's Caliville Tour will wrap up in mid-December.
"I’m such a big fan of Carly," gushes Young. "I’m excited that I get 75 minutes a night where I get to play more of the record and start mixing some covers and some songs that maybe people don’t know are important and big songs for me, and just put together a whole night of production that is my own and start branding the live show."
A list of all of Young's upcoming shows is available on his website.
The 2017 CMA Awards are scheduled to air on ABC on Nov. 8, at 8PM ET; the ceremony will take place live at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will host the ceremony for the 10th year in a row.
