Founder of The Popular Satire Website The Onion Coming to Texarkana
Laughter brings people together; in today's world, we need more laughter than ever. Get ready for a great evening in Texarkana as Texas A&M University-Texarkana brings the founder of the popular satire website TheOnion.com to town.
The event hosted by the university's Program for Learning and Community Engagement (PLACE) proudly presents Humorist Scott Dikkers as the spring keynote speaker.
Scott Dikkers will speak about theOnion as a transformative text. This year’s PLACE series theme is “Transformative Texts: Personal Responsibility.”
Along with being the founder of TheOnion, he is also a #1 New York Times Best Selling Author of over 30 humor books.
Dr. Doug Julien, Professor of English at Texas A&M University-Texarkana said in a press release,
Transformative texts are those texts that change the way we think or feel about things. Sometimes the texts are old. Sometimes they’re new. We chose Scott Dikkers as our spring speaker because he had a broad appeal, both to our academic community and the greater community at large. The event is open to the public and we hope to have a good crowd on hand to hear him speak.
The lecture will be on Wednesday, April 17 from 6 PM to 8 PM in Eagle Hall, located on the first floor of the University Center building.
This event is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required.
