Gov. Sanders Bringing Capital for a Day to Texarkana

Texarkana, Arkansas, to Serve as State Capital on July 15

Texarkana will temporarily become the capital of Arkansas this Wednesday, July 15, as Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and senior state officials visit the city as part of the Governor's "Capital for a Day" program.

The proclamation names Texarkana as Arkansas' official seat of government for the day, making it the 19th community selected since the program began. The initiative brings the governor and members of her administration to communities across the state to meet with local leaders, discuss regional priorities, and highlight the cities that help shape Arkansas.

Celebrating Texarkana's History

In the proclamation, Sanders recognizes Texarkana's unique heritage as a city that spans two states and has served as a transportation, business, and cultural hub for nearly 150 years.

The governor also highlights several of the city's most recognizable landmarks and traditions, including the historic United States Post Office and Courthouse, the only federal post office building located in two states, as well as the Four States Fair and Rodeo, the Tex-Arkansas Antique Auto Museum, and the city's ties to military aviation and film history.

Sanders also noted that Texarkana was part of her childhood, calling the city an important stop for the Capital for a Day program.

Arkansas State Leaders Coming to Town

During Wednesday's visit, Governor Sanders and senior state government officials are expected to meet with local leaders and community representatives while conducting official state business in Texarkana.

Although the designation lasts only one day, the program is designed to strengthen relationships between state and local government while shining a spotlight on communities across Arkansas.
