Hempstead County, Arkansas, Warns of Deputy Phone Scam

Residents in Hempstead County are being urged to stay alert after scammers began posing as deputies with the Hempstead County Sheriff's Office in an attempt to steal money and personal information.

How the Scam Works

According to the sheriff's office, callers are falsely identifying themselves as "Deputy Steven Glover" and telling residents they have an outstanding warrant, missed a court appearance, or owe money. The scammers then demand immediate payment or ask for sensitive personal information.

Sheriff James A. Singleton said these calls are fraudulent.

The sheriff's office emphasized that deputies will never call to demand payment to avoid arrest. They also will not request payment through gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or other immediate forms of payment, nor will they ask for personal or financial information over the phone in this way.

What the Sheriff's Office Wants You to Do

Anyone who receives one of these calls should:

Hang up immediately.
Never provide personal or financial information.
Do not send money or make any payment.
Contact the Hempstead County Sheriff's Office using its official phone number if they have questions about whether a call is legitimate.
