Arkansas High narrowly escaped Pine Bluff, beating the Zebras 2-1 in a conference game Thursday at Razorback Field.The Hogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Brady Chattaway scored from first base on a double by Brayden Ward. Arkansas High left a pair of runners on base in the second inning.

Pine Bluff's Gelander Harris III drew a one out walk in the top of the third and came around to score on a double by second baseman Braylen Jones to make the score 1-1.

With the score still tied in the bottom of the fourth inning, Arkansas High's Lavert Paxton singled to left field. Ty Martindale was then hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with no one out. Pine Bluff turned a double play on the next pitch but Hunter McGilberry came through with a base hit scoring Paxton and giving the Hogs a 2-1 win.

Ward led Arkansas High with two doubles.Tamarco Collins had a single and a walk. The Hogs finished with seven hits.

"I thought tonight we left too many runners on base when we had them in scoring position." Said Arkansas High Head Coach Layne Berry after the game. But Berry was pleased with tonight's pitching performance. "Our pitcher Braden Warner did an outstanding job. It's only his third time to start this year; he threw strikes, battled for us, and helped us when the ball game."

Warner got the win on the mound for Arkansas High. Warner pitched a complete game, striking out five and walking two batters. J'Marlos Johnson took the loss for the Zebras.

Arkansas High will be back in action Monday at home against Broken Bow.
