Do you travel every day on Hwy 82 from DeKalb into New Boston, or to Red River Army Depot? Maybe you commute using I-30 headed toward Texarkana or Arkansas? Starting Wednesday, December 3, you won't be able to do that for about 3 months.

More I-30 Ramp Work Begins

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) issued a reminder to Bowie County travellers that the on-ramp to I-30 Eastbound in New Boston from Hwy 82 heading toward Texarkana or Arkansas will be closed for construction. This construction should last approximately into February, depending on weather conditions.

Nothing New Really

Those using this route to enter I-30 Westbound have already experienced rampus-interruptus, as the westbound side freeway ramp has been undergoing the same re-ramping construction for a while now.

The Detour Solution Is Close By

Luckily, the detour around the construction is pretty simple and close by. Just up Hwy 82 is an intersection next to the Skaggs Country Store & Grill. Turn south at the light and go whichever way floats your boat when you get to I-30.

Depending on where you're starting from, you could take the long way around on the North side of the freeway on CR 3004, or slink through downtown New Boston to Hwy 8, then back up to I-30. I would not recommend either of those routes.

Happy motoring.
