J.W.’s News Update: Monday June 6, 2011

Good Monday, here are some stories making headlines today:

The Texarkana Arkansas City Board of Directors meets tonight at city hall. The session begins at 6:45 with the City Employee Service Awards followed by the regular meeting at 7:00 p.m.

The board will see a presentation by City Grant Writer Mark Shoptaw concerning the recent 1st Annual RailFest Event held in Downtown Texarkana. Also the board will take up a public hearing concerning the condemnation of some fourteen  substandard structures.

The 2011 Arkansas State Highway Maps are now available from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. The maps may be obtained at no charge at any of the Highway Department's District Headquarters and at all Arkansas Welcome Centers or online at www.arkansashighways.com

The cover of the 2011 map features Highway 27 in Pope County. The map also includes messages from Governor Mike Beebe and the Arkansas State Highway Commission welcoming visitors to the state. The map also incorporates 23 insets of Arkansas Cities and a directory of State Parks & Historical Memorials, National Park Sites, and other spots of interest. More than one million maps are expected to be distributed free of charge to the public.

The Hooks Independent School District will be having their annual sponsorship fo the Summer Food Program. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:30 and lunch from 11:30 to 12:30 Monday thru Thursday beginning June 13th.

The meals are FREE to all children 18 and younger and there is no registration necessary. The meals will be served at the Hooks Junior High Campus 3921 FM 560 in Hooks, Texas. The program ends Wednesday June 29th.

In sports;

The Pleasant Grove Boys High School Baseball team is headed to the State Tournament down in Austin. The Hawks will Robstown in the Class 3A State Semi-Final Wednesday afternoon at 4pm. The winner of that game will face the winner of the other semi-final featuring Kennedale and Robinson. The State Championship game is slated for 5:30 pm Thursday in Austin.  Good luck to the Hawks!!!!!!!!!!!!
