The Texarkana Texas Independent School District board of trustees are meeting today in Special Session at 11 am. The board is expected to name a lone finalist for the position of Superintendent. There are three people on the list of applicants including current Texas High Principal Paul Norton.

The current superintendent James Henry Russell is resigning to accept the position of President at Texarkana Community College later this month.

The civil trial involving  jailed evangelist Tony Alamo is expected to wrap up today in federal court in Texarkana, Arkansas. Two former members of Alamo's ministry have filed suit against Alamo claiming he ordered another individual to beat them.

Yesterday the mother of one of the men said her son deserved to be paddled. Alamo is not expected to be present for any of the trial as he sits in a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana. Alamo's wife and son have testified on his behalf.

Fewer People applied for unemployment benefits last week but applications remain stuck at high levels that signal weak job growth.

The Labor Department says the number of people seeking unemployment benefits dropped 6,000 to a seasonally adjusted 422,000, which was the third drop in the last four weeks. The four week average which is less volatile fell for the second straight week to 425,500. That is still far above the 375,000 level which is consistent with robust job growth, but well below the peak for applications which was at 659,000 during the height of the last recession.

Game #2 of the NBA Finals is tonight in Miami. The Heat lead the best of seven series 1-0 over the Dallas Mavericks heading into tonights contest. The series will shift to Big D  this weekend.

Game #1 of the Best of Three Regional Finals in Boys High School Baseball is slated for tonight in McKinney, Texas as Pleasant Grove takes on Argyle. The winner of the series heads to the state finals down in Austin next week. Good Luck to the PG Hawks in their effort to win another state championship!!!!
