The Bowie County Sheriffs office is in mourning today after the loss of one of their deputies yesterday. Sheriff James Prince says 54 year old part-time deputy Sherri Jones was shot to death allegedly by an inmate whom she was transporting following a hearing yesterday in New Boston. Authorities allege that 21 year old Tucker Strickland attacked the deputy in the basement of the County Courthouse, took her weapon and shot her before fleeing in a Transport van. Strickland was stopped an arrested by Ashdown, Arkansas authorities a little later in the afternoon.

A Capital murder charge is being filed and the Texas Rangers will be investigating the shooting death.

Texarkana College is looking for a new President. The College Board of Trustees accepted Dr. Alan Rasco's resignation during last nights meeting. The search is on for a replacement for Rasco who took over for Frank Colemen back in 2009. An interim president will preside over the remainder of the Spring Semester as a new permanent President is sought.

The 2nd Annual Career & Community Resources Expo hosted by the Greater Texarkana Workforce Center is going on today Tuesday April 19, 2011 from 11:00 am to 3 pm at the Four States Fair Entertainment Center. The local economy is growing and local employers need qualified employee candidates. The Expo is open to everyone and attendance and parking are free. You are encouraged to bring plenty of copies of your resume and dress to impress. Once again the Expo is 11 to 3 today at the Four States Fairgrounds.
