
Arkansas State Police Investigate Officer-Involved Fatal Shooting In Searcy
The Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a Jacksonville man dead Tuesday afternoon in Searcy, Arkansas.
Police: What Happened in Searcy?
According to authorities, the shooting happened around 2:15 PM on May 12 at a service station located at the corner of Maple Street, also known as Highway 16, and Holmes Road. Officers with the Searcy Police Department were called to the business after reports of a disturbance.
Witnesses told investigators that the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Cordney Sherod Stewart of Jacksonville, allegedly fired a weapon both inside and outside the business before an officer discharged their weapon during the encounter.
Stewart was struck by gunfire and received medical treatment at the scene before being transported to a local hospital, where he later died. No officers were injured during the incident.
ASP Called In To Investigate
At the request of the Searcy Police Department, the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation into the shooting.

Officials said Stewart’s body will be taken to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where the manner and cause of death will be determined.
The Investigations Continue
Once the investigation is complete, ASP special agents will submit their findings to the White County Prosecuting Attorney, who will determine whether the use of deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.
