It teaches them their economic role in society. I enjoy being able to help the students understand the importance of financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

The J.A. program has been very beneficial to the Texarkana area, helping teach classes at Pleasant Grove, Red Lick, Liberty Eylau, and T.I.S.D. elementary campuses, just to name a few. Second grade is the most popular program they teach and it's taught 100 percent by volunteers. Junior Achievement teaches the program in half a day and "J.A. in a Day" programs are taught in short increments over a period of several weeks.

"Each classroom kit costs $300 so any dollar we raise helps cover the cost of the kits," said Vice Chairperson for the Texarkana Board Patricia Cunningham. "The tools and activities used in the kit brings a whole new concept in how they learn these concepts. It’s taught in a way that makes the lessons fun and engaging.

"One of the prime reasons I got involved with the Junior Achievement program, especially in the lower grades, is that it teaches the children about how our community works and how we all fit into our communities. It teaches them their economic role in society. I enjoy being able to help the students understand the importance of financial literacy and entrepreneurship.
