Largest Jesus Statue in Arkansas and Fourth Largest Worldwide
Did you know that the largest Jesus statue in Arkansas is the largest in the United States and the fourth largest in the World?
Christ of the Ozarks
The Christ of the Ozarks statue in Eureka Springs is seven stories tall and it requires 340 tons of concrete intertwined with steel and welded to anchor it down on Magnetic Mountain. Due to its location, the massive sculpture was challenging because every inch was built by hand with a 65-foot wingspan reaching an altitude of 1,500 feet.
The statue stands tall at 67 feet and weighs over 2 million pounds, according to Only in Arkansas. The statue was built to withstand winds up to 500 MPH with a pressure plate on top of the head in case of a tornado. On a clear day, you can see the statue as far away as 20 miles.
For example, the face alone is about 15 feet in height and the hands from the wrist to the fingertips are about 7 feet in length. The Christ of Ozarks was constructed in 1966 and continues to be one of Arknsas' Top Attractions bringing visitors from all over the world to see the gigantic Jesus statue.
The statue was built to be a part of the Great Passion Play a live show that tells the story of the life and times of Jesus Christ. However, you don't have to attend the #1 outdoor drama show in America to see the statue up close.
Christ of the Ozarks overlooks the quaint little historic town of Eureka Springs one of America's most sought-after top small towns for its diversity, culture, and uniqueness. Nestled in between the Ozark Mountains Eureka Springs is like a Swiss Village untouched by time with its cobblestone and brick roads that wrap around the city. With lots of unique shops, boutiques, and restaurants there is always something to do.
