Texarkana’s $park Event Prepares Students for Life After High School
A new event is coming to Texarkana this fall is aimed at helping high school students get ready for the real world. Red River Credit Union, the Center for Financial Literacy and Investment at Texas A&M University, Texarkana (TAMUT), and Workforce Solutions Northeast Texas are teaming up to host $park: Students Preparing for Adult Readiness and Knowledge.
The event is set for September 16 & 17 at Texas A&M University, Texarkana. The free event will run from 9 AM to noon both days and includes lunch. The program is designed to help students develop essential life skills in budgeting, money management, job readiness, and career exploration.
A Fun Hands-On Approach:
Students will take a tour of the university, participate in a hands-on Reality Fair, and attend interactive sessions led by financial experts, career advisors, and industry professionals. Organizers say the event goes beyond classroom learning to offer real-world tools for future success.
Jay Davis, Executive Director of the Center for Financial Literacy and Investment at TAMUT, said the event is a practical step to help students gain confidence and skills that will benefit them long after graduation. Emily Bright with Red River Credit Union added that the goal is to empower young people with the knowledge and resources they need to take control of their futures.
How To Get Involved:
Area schools are encouraged to register their students for the event. Admission is free, but space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
