Live United Bowl Week is Here, Volunteers Needed
The Live United Bowl week is upon us and volunteers are needed, check out how you can help the United Way of Greater Texarkana.
Of course the big game, the Agent Barry Live United Bowl is Saturday at noon at the newly renovated Razorback Stadium. This years game features Pittsburgh State vs Arkansas Tech. All proceeds above expenses goes to the local United Way, which helps dozens of area agencies and thousands of area residents in need.
But the event is actually a four day event that stretches from Wednesday evening until the game is over Saturday afternoon, and volunteers from the community are needed to make the event special for the college kids, and fans that are coming from the two respective universities.
First up is the Live United Live Remote from the Brangus Feed Lot on Arkansas Boulevard. That will be Wednesday evening from 5 to 7PM. There will be giveaways and tailgate food and drink specials. The public is encouraged and invited to attend the event.
The first volunteer need is on Thursday. People are needed for the greeting of the Arkansas Tech Wonderboys at the Texarkana Arkansas Convention Center around mid afternoon, close to 3PM.
Later in the evening volunteers are needed for the greeting of the Pittsburgh State Gorillas, approximately 5:30PM at the neighboring Hampton Inn at the Crossroads.
The public is invited and encouraged to be there at the two arrivals, to give the teams, a HEARTY TEXARKANA WELCOME!!!!
Volunteers are still needed for the team breakfasts on Friday morning at the Convention Center, and for the lunch that day at Pop's Place on Highway 67 East. To volunteer for any of the Live United Bowl events contact Vicki Huckabee at (903) 223-3025
Lots going on besides just football with the game. On Friday the players from both teams will be visiting residents and workers at some of the agencies that the United Way serves.
Friday night its the team banquet and community pep rally. Those two events will be going on at the Texarkana Texas Convention Center, near Central Mall. Guest speaker at the banquet is Rod Smith, former Arkansas High and Denver Bronco superstar. The pep rally that follows will be outside the convention center and will be a full collegiate event. The pep rally part of the evening is a free event and the public is invited and encouraged to attend.
Following the rally will be a concert by the Robert St. John Band. You must have a ticket or pay $10 for the concert..
On game day Saturday, the day starts off with a 5K Run, then the gates to the stadium open at 10AM for the noon kickoff. Tailgating for each team is encouraged.
There will be a flyover following the National Anthem. During the game there will be numerous giveaways, including fire pits and a total of $5,000 given to people in attendance at the game.
Halftime of the game will include performances by both University bands and a brief set by the Robert St. John band. Rod Smith will be honorary captain for the game.
