Remember when Texarkana had a Piggly Wiggly many years ago?

If I remember correctly we had two Piggly Wiggly stores, there was one on East Street (Hwy71) in College Hill and the other was in Oaklawn Village on the Texas side. In fact, there were several stores that were around in those days from what I was told. If you are old enough to remember like me, you probably went to the store with your mama or daddy and how could you forget their iconic logo, the pig with the butcher hat.

The Comeback

Well, this should make you happy Piggly Wiggly is coming back to Texarkana next year. Piggly Wiggly now has over 530 stores nationwide in 17 states, so don't you think it's about time we get one again?

Heck, Shreveport and Hope already have Piggly Wiggly's, and starting today Magnolia, Arkansas is bringing back the pig. According to the Magnolia Reporter website, Save-A-Lot Stores and Cash Savers are being transitioned over to a newer version, Piggly Wiggly Cost Plus. The new slogan will be "Down Home, Down the Street," and promises its customers more selection, with a variety of more name-brand products, quality meats, fresh produce, and better deals than Walmart, Super 1, and Brookshires.

Geoff Salisbury, a regional supervisor for Save-A-Lot resides in Nash, Texas, and has been instrumental in working diligently on getting the Magnolia Piggly Wiggly transitioned over and running this week which is located at 429 East Main Street.

"Future plans call for the Save-A-Lot on New Boston Road and the Save-A-Lot store on East Street (Hwy71) to become a Piggly Wiggly Cost Plus withn the year." said Salisbury

By the way, the iconic pig logo that's been around for 100 years has become so famous that the Piggly Wiggly stores have created a section named Pig Gear that will be carrying all kinds of merchandise such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, caps, and other items with the pig face. Other than the Arkansas Razorback logo, this just might be the next popular pig in the state.

So, there you go Texarkana something that became a part of our past is now set to become a part of the future again. History always has a way of repeating itself for better or worse.

Now, if we could just bring back Safeway!
