Texarkana ISD Celebrates Major Four-Star Milestone for Morriss Tiger Learning Center

Texarkana ISD has something big to celebrate! Morriss Tiger Learning Center has earned a Four-Star certification through the Texas Rising Star program, recognizing the center's commitment to providing high-quality care and learning experiences for children.

The certification follows an assessment completed earlier this month on August 13. Morriss received a verified overall rating of four stars, along with four-star ratings in Director and Staff Qualifications and Training, Teacher-Child Interactions, and Program Administration.

A Focus on Quality Care

Texas Rising Star is a quality rating and improvement system for Texas early childhood programs. Participating centers are evaluated on standards that measure quality in areas such as staff qualifications, teacher-child interactions, administration, and learning environments.

Lakesha Taylor, Executive Director of Student and Family Support Services, said in a press release,

This Four-Star recognition is a reflection of the care, preparation, and intentionality our staff brings to Morriss Tiger Learning Center every day.

 

Creating a Positive Learning Environment

During the assessment, evaluators observed teachers creating warm, nurturing classrooms while engaging children through positive conversations and activities. Staff was recognized for responding to individual needs, encouraging participation, and creating opportunities for children to learn and grow.

The center also met state requirements related to staff training, family involvement, community resources, and accommodations for children and families.

A Team Effort

Jennifer Treadway, Director of Childcare Services, stated,

This recognition belongs to our entire team. Our staff works hard to create a place where children feel safe, valued, and excited to be here.

Treadway also praised the leadership of Morriss Tiger Learning Center Supervisor Debra Morrison, whose work helps keep the program focused on providing consistent, high-quality care.

The assessment didn't stop there. It also highlighted the strong parent communication, family engagement opportunities, health and nutrition supports, and a developmentally appropriate curriculum. All contributed to the center's Four-Star designation.
