Where did Hamburger Come From?
There are a few different stories about who made the first burger and all of them begin around 1885. Stories from Texas, Oklahoma, New York, and Wisconsin. But, the fact is, Hamburgers weren't known nationwide until a Texan named Fletcher Davis brought them to the 1904 St. Louis Worlds Fair.
Why Are They Called Hamburgers When They Have No Ham?
There are two stories on that. One is that the name originates from Hamburg Germany because they brought over minced or ground beef. They called the "patty" a Hamburger Steak and the patty used in the sandwich looked like the patty used in the Hamburger Steak.
The other story is it was named after a fair in Hamburg New York when two brothers were cooking food and ran out of sausage so they grabbed the ground beef added spices and served as a sandwich. When someone asked what it was one of the brothers saw the fair sign with the town's name Hamburg and the rest is history.
