Pleasant Grove Independent School District has announced they have a new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. Congratulations to Jonathan Darby. District leaders say Darby brings not only a strong combination of experience and leadership but also a familiarity with Pleasant Grove athletics as he steps into the dual role.

Darby brings more than 13 years of coaching and athletic leadership experience to Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana, but he also most recently served as Associate Athletic Director, guiding the Hawks as Defensive Coordinator for the past five years. He also served as Head Boys’ Track Coach.

 

Darby's Collegiate Coaching and Academic Background

Before joining Pleasant Grove ISD, Darby gained experience at the collegiate level, coaching at Texas Christian University and Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in sports management from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, as well as an additional master’s degree from Texas Christian University.

Superintendent Chad Pirtle said in a press release,

Jonathan Darby has demonstrated a strong commitment to our student-athletes, coaches, and the values of Pleasant Grove ISD. His leadership, experience, and deep understanding of our district position him well to continue building on our tradition of excellence.

Darby replaces the outgoing Athletic Director, Josh Gibson, who recently accepted a position in the private sector.

District officials say they look forward to the leadership, vision, and stability Darby will bring as he begins this next chapter serving student-athletes, coaches, and the Pleasant Grove community.
