Police Warn, No Swimming or Fishing at River in Arkansas
Now is the perfect time for fishing and soon it will be time to cool off by floating down a river or jumping in a lake or river in Arkansas. There is a portion of one river in Arkansas where there will be no fishing or swimming until further notice.
The river is The Little River and police in Lepanto, Arkansas in Poinsett County are warning people they need to stay out of the water because it's too dangerous right now.
The Lepanto Police Department told kait8tv.com yesterday (Sunday, May 12) that the Little River is off-limits to swimmers and anglers.
The police stated that people have been throwing trash in to the river. So much trash that now officials feel that it could cause dangerous situations for swimmers and fishermen especially a big danger to children.
Fearing that someone might get hurt, the police department has ordered everyone to stay out of the river until it can be cleaned up.
The Little River, is not to be mistaken for the other Little River in Southwest Arkansas. Did you know there were two Little Rivers in Arkansas? This one is a tributary of the St. Francis River. It runs about 148 miles from southeastern Missouri and into northeastern Arkansas.
Here's a little trivia for you, John Grishman's book The Painted House was made into a movie and it was filmed in Lepanto, Arkansas.
Let's hope the people of Lepanto, Arkansas can get together for a river clean-up so they can start enjoying the river for the summer.
