Riot Breaks Out at Texarkana’s Riverview Behavioral Hospital, 3 Juveniles Arrested

On Sunday morning October 13, around 9:30 AM, the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department received a 911 call reporting a riot at Riverview Behavioral Hospital. The call stated that several patients had become disruptive, taken control of part of the hospital, and were using a piece of metal to break interior windows in an attempt to escape.

Officers Arrived to Staff Trapped & Surrounded by Rioters

According to the press release, when officers arrived, they learned that some staff members were trapped inside a nurse’s station, surrounded by aggressive juvenile patients. The Texarkana Police Department and other agencies were able to devise a plan to secure the situation and safely evacuate the staff.

Officers, equipped with riot gear and non-lethal tools, entered the hospital and were able to separate the patients and staff and de-escalate the situation without any major injuries.

Three male juveniles, aged 15, 15, and 17, were arrested for inciting the riot and will be sent to a juvenile detention facility. The remaining patients were returned to the custody of the hospital.
