Why Riverview Behavioral Health Offers Specialized Care for Clients 55 and Older
Although Riverview Behavioral Health offers individualized treatment plans to all clients, those who are 55 and older tend to have some common needs that are related to their ages and stages of life.
That's why Riverview offers a Senior Care Program that addresses mental and behavioral health challenges in ways most beneficial to this age group. There's also a social component: Many older adults have experienced shame related to their mental and behavioral health challenges, so the program allows them to meet and interact with adults who likely are in the same life stage and have experienced some of the same symptoms and social pressures.
The Senior Care Program offers a structured daily schedule with a personalized array of therapies run by staff with considerable experience working with older adults. Concerns that can be addressed include:
- Depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Bipolar disorder
- Grief/loss
- Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related concerns
- Schizophrenia
- Suicidal ideation
Group therapy topics might include anger management, substance abuse and relapse prevention, family and relationships, impulse control, grief and loss, depression, and social skills. Family and individual therapy also might be part of the individualized treatment plan.
If needed, an older adult can complete Riverview's detox program before completing the Senior Care Program, and a psychiatrist and other medical staff can handle medication management and basic medical care associated with their mental and behavioral health.
The length of the in-patient stay is based on each individual's needs, but Riverview also develops a discharge plan to encourage and support continued improvement.
