Safe Haven Baby Box #400 Opens Here in Texarkana Friday at 1PM
Texarkana will soon have a new resource designed to protect newborns and support parents in crisis. A Safe Haven Baby Box has been installed at Texarkana Emergency Center & Hospital, giving parents a secure and anonymous way to safely surrender a newborn when they feel they have no other options.
How the Baby Box Works
These baby boxes are built into exterior walls and feature temperature control, padded interiors, and automatic locking mechanisms that activate the moment a newborn is placed inside. Once the exterior door locks, on-site medical staff are alerted by silent alarms and can retrieve the baby within minutes through an interior door to provide immediate care.
Saving Lives Through Compassion and Access
Every year, infants are abandoned in unsafe situations across the country due to fear, stress, or lack of support. Safe Haven Baby Boxes offer a compassionate alternative by ensuring infants are protected while allowing parents to surrender them anonymously under Safe Haven laws.
Since 2016, the program has expanded nationwide, pairing secure Baby Boxes with a 24-hour crisis hotline and public education on Safe Haven options so no parent feels alone and no child is left without care.

Texarkana Rotary Clubs Help Make It Happen
The new Texarkana installation marks the 400th Baby Box in the nation now and was made possible through the combined efforts of all four Rotary Clubs of Texarkana, which helped raise the funds necessary to bring a Safe Haven Baby Box to the community. Their support played a key role in ensuring this lifesaving resource is now available locally.
