SAU Welcomes Hollywood Producer and Author Harry Thomason November 4

Famed Hollywood producer Harry Thomason, an alumnus of Southern Arkansas University, will be in Magnolia on Monday, November 4, 2019, to celebrate the publication of his first book. The newly released book Brother Dog: Southern Tales and Hollywood Adventures, is a collection of personal stories from Thomason’s childhood in Arkansas. 

Thomason was born in Hampton, Arkansas, to a grocer and a Sunday school teacher. He listened to family stories at his mom’s kitchen table and later became the storyteller at family reunions. After attending Southern State College (now SAU), he began his career as an art teacher and football coach. Eager to work in film, Thomason’s first productions were political commercials for statewide broadcast. He ultimately moved to California, where he began making made-for-TV movies and sitcoms. In 1983, he founded Mozark Productions with his writer-producer-director wife, Linda Bloodworth Thomason. Together they produced Designing Women, Evening Shade and Hearts Afire. Many Arkansans in the southern part of the state will recall participating in the filming of Evening Shade episodes. At age 79, Thomason checks another accomplishment off his bucket list by becoming a first-time author.

According to the Press Release, "Brother Dog" may be purchased at the SAU Bookstore and SAU Beyond the Campus beginning November 1 and will be available for purchase at the event on November 4.
