This is about as American as a story can get.

Forget what you've seen in the movies, what's happening in real life is a whole lot better. While were celebrating our freedom over the weekend, one American Bald Eagle was doing the same. I'm not being philosophical here because this beautiful bird is the symbol of our great nation. No, he literally was enjoying his freedom because last week he could have lost his life.

According to KWWL in Minnesota, a bald eagle was caught in some rope in a tree and dangling upside down over 70 feet in the air. He was saved by a sharpshooting Army veteran named Jason Galvin, who served our country in Afghaniston.

He shot the eagle down.

Galvin said he and his wife made some phone calls but the eagle was too high to be rescued. When all seemed lost, Galvin joked that he may just shoot it down. His wife however, took it seriously and immediately set him on a mission to do just that.

After 150 shots, the bird was safely on the ground in a pile of soft underbrush.

The America Bald Eagle was trapped and taken to a veterinarian's office by a conservation officer. He has since been looked at and treated. Vets say that he is eating and drinking just fine.
