Southern Rockers Lynyrd Skynryd in Hot Springs, Ark. July 1
The 4th of July weekend is coming up and what better way to celebrate than going to see one of America's legendary iconic bands Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert this Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Magic Springs Theme Park in Hot Springs, Ark.
If you were raised in the South the name Lynyrd Skynyrd is synonymous with all-American hot dogs and apple pie. Their signature Southern rock sound has influenced a ton of musicians from all over the world for generations. Their iconic anthem "Sweet Home Alabama," as Southerners like to call it, is probably one of the most recognized hits of all-time. There is no telling how many other bands have covered this song but you be rest assured when it's played, fans scream and yell.
The band started out as My Backyard then they were named The Noble Five before they changed to Lynryd Skynryd in the early 1970s, according to their website. I graduated in 1977 and still remember that tragic plane crash that claimed the life of founding member and lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zant along with some other band members.
Fast forward to the year 2017, and we find the second generation of Lynryd Skynrd featuring his brother Johnny Van Zant as lead vocalist. The band was rightfully inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and they continue to make new music and tour all over the world. The journey has been long but there's no stopping this band who's etched their name into rock and roll history forever.
The trip to Arkansas looks like the closest they will be to our area all year. Sounds like a road trip to me.
