Local agencies have a couple of  weeks to put in applications for some emergency food and shelter program funds that have been made available for our area.

Miller County, Arkansas and Bowie County Texas were notified of grants in the amount of $16,362 and $32,944 respectively under Phase 34 of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program. Not-for-profit social service agencies, providing emergency food and shelter services in Miller and Bowie County are invited to apply for these funds. The Local Board comprised of  representatives from the American Red Cross, The Ministerial Alliance, The Salvation Army , Council on Aging,  Arkansas Department of Human Services and United Way review the applications submitted.

Congress has appropriated $120,000,000 million to supplement and expand emergency food and shelter programs.  Miller and Bowie Counties jurisdiction’s award is based upon the total number of unemployed as compared to the total number of unemployed in all qualifying jurisdictions.

Applications are due by (noon) Thursday, July 6, to the United Way of Greater Texarkana office at 214 Spruce Street Downtown Texarkana. Forms can be requested by calling the UWGT office at 903-794-3105.
