Coyotes Spotted in Texarkana, Here’s What You Need to Know
Recently there have been more sightings of coyotes in Texarkana. Over the weekend there was a post and video of coyotes on the Arkansas side of town.
The video of a few coyotes was taken over the weekend and posted on Metro Texarkana News and Reports on Facebook around the Arkansas Blouvard and Jefferson area. It's pretty common to see coyotes in the outer areas of Texarkana but this sighting was farther in town.
A few years back the City of Texarkana, Texas put out a list of things on Facebook you should be aware of and also things to not do if you encounter a coyote or several as they do like to run in packs.
First of all, they are wild animals and we can co-exist with them. Even though they might be a threat to our pets it is against the law to shoot them inside the city limits.
Watch your pets! Don't let them be a coyote's dinner.
It is also recommended:
1. DO NOT feed them. If you feed them they will come around more and will be less afraid of humans and could become more aggressive.
2. Please keep all trash in trash containers with lids securely on.
3. Do Not leave your pets outside unattended or at large. That means dogs and cats.
4. You should be able to scare them off by yelling or throwing rocks or sticks near them.
This next one wasn't on their list but it's good to practice. Keep an eye on your little kids too. Don't leave your baby or toddler outside alone!
If you see coyotes in the Texarkana city limits please call the Texarkana, Texas Animal Services Department at (903) 798-3535.
