The Texarkana Museum Systems have canceled the movie showing of "The Help" and 'Planes Trains and Automobiles" due to the recent surge in COVID cases in our area.

I, unfortunately, know about this. I tested COVID positive last Thursday and I am on my final day of quarantine.

The movie showing of "The Help" was scheduled for this Thursday at the new 1923 Banana Club. The event is a chance for you to see the critically acclaimed novel from 2009 transformed onto the big screen. Here is a quick trailer for the movie "The Help" from youtube.

The movie showing also featured dinner from one of the locally-owned restaurants in the downtown Texarkana area. As of right now, there is no rescheduled date for this movie event.

The other canceled event "planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Chugga, Chugga, Choo, Choo" has also been postponed due to the rising COVID numbers. This event will be held at the famous "Ace OF Clubs House" in downtown Texarkana. The event will be three separate events that will highlight the great history of Texarkana on how people were able to see the country through various means of transportation.

Both of these events would be a great opportunity for you to experience some of the new things that are going on in our downtown area. With new clubs and restaurants plus the Texarkana Museum Systems offering so many neat things to do for adults and children now is the best time to become a member of the Texarkana Museum Systems.

To find out more you can go to Texarkana Museum Systems.org/events or you can call for more information at 903 793-4831.

If you have not had a chance to check out the new 1923 Banana Club check out some pictures I took right before it opened.

his is the view from one side of the club. Those chairs are suede and are as comfy as they look.

In this corner, there is a piano and you can see that the decor is definitely art deco and represents the 1920's.

On the wall beside the piano is some awesome art that has been painted by a local artist. These paintings will be offered for sale. Notice the original wall with the brick and original paint as well.

The art deco theme continues in this small conversation area. Every time I look at this picture I see new decorating details that I missed.

This is a quick look at the stage. You could sped a lot of time working out all of the little details in the backdrop of the stage.

In this view, you can see what the stage would look like when there is a performer on stage. The lighting is just one of the few 'modern' thins mixed in to give the club its charm.

This is the most unique element of the club. The bar has blue fluid that circulates just under the lear surface and I think this is one of the 'focal points of the entire club.

Everywhere you look there is something unique that just catches your eye. Not only is there a unique art piece there is some history of a famous silent film star highlighted on this wall.

This is one of the tables that feature some antique metal covered in resin.

Last and definitely not least is this pump that is a conversation piece in the club. I think the lighting is what really makes it stand out. Notice it has a wrench attached to give it a little 'extra'.
