Texarkana Police Arrest Man for Alleged Assault on a Peace Officer
A 45-year-old man was arrested Friday night after a violent encounter with a police officer in Texarkana. Jeffrey Troxel now faces charges of Assault on a Peace Officer and had an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
According to the Texarkana Texas Police Department Facebook page, it all began when Sgt. Nick Tirone responded to a report that a man was allegedly pulling out a gun during an argument in front of a home at the 1600 block of W. 11th Street. When Sgt. Tirone arrived, he spotted a man matching the description standing next to a motorcycle in the street. The man, who was later identified as Troxel, denied knowing anything about the disturbance.
Because this incident involved a possible gun, Sgt, Tirone asked to pat Troxel down for weapons. Instead of cooperating, Troxel allegedly reached into his jacket pocket. Concerned for his safety, Sgt. Tirone quickly grabbed his arm, that is when Troxel punched the officer in the face and lunged at him.
Texarkana Texas Police stated,
A struggle ensued as Troxel struck Sgt. Tirone repeatedly in the face and even attempted to grab his gun from its holster several times. Despite the ongoing attack, Sgt. Tirone eventually managed to gain control of Troxel and held him down until Officer Conner Melton got there to help secure and handcuff him.
Police believe Troxel had taken a significant amount of methamphetamine before the altercation. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation and was treated. Then he was booked into the Bi-State Jail.

Sgt. Tirone sustained bruises to his face and ears plus scraped up knees and elbows. Fortunately, the injuries were minor. He returned to duty and completed his shift.
Troxel now faces felony charges of Assault on a Peace Officer, and his bond has been set at $260,000. The warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon stems from a stabbing incident earlier this month in DeKalb.
The TTPD commended Sgt. Tirone for his courage and quick actions to bring a dangerous situation under control.
We’re grateful that Sgt. Tirone is safe and recovering. Thank you to all our officers for the work you do every day to protect our community.
