Search Resumes For Skeletal Remains Near Wagner Creek in Texarkana
Law enforcement officials with the Texarkana, Texas Police Department and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department were back on the scene this morning (August 12), conducting an extensive search for additional evidence after skeletal remains were found earlier this month in a creek bed near Wagner Creek.
Police Return To The Scene Where Skeletal Remains Were Found August 1
According to earlier reports, on August 1, a person was walking alongside the creek, near Highway 82 and a local Walmart, when they noticed what looked like skeletal remains. The Texarkana, Texas, Police were notified, and an immediate investigation was implemented to determine who the person might be. A search dog was brought in to comb the area, uncovering further evidence that has been submitted for analysis. The remains themselves have been sent to the medical examiner's office in Dallas to identify the individual.
Law Enforcement Authorities Continue Investigation
According to KSLA12, police spokesman Shawn Vaugn indicated that the identification could be a long one.
"At this point, we do not know who the person is and, quite honestly, it may be months before we do, if any at all," Vaughn said.
He noted that investigators are considering several open missing persons cases in the area. The department is asking for anyone with information related to this case to contact them.
