Grand Opening Set for Revamped Swanger Baseball Complex
The City of Texarkana, Texas, will celebrate the grand opening of the newly renovated Swanger Baseball Complex next Friday, May 2, at 6:00 PM in Spring Lake Park.
The event will be hosted in by the Parks and Recreation Department and Texarkana Dixie Youth Baseball, and will include a ribbon cutting, facility tours, and ceremonial first pitches to kick off opening day games.
The new complex is named in honor of former Texarkana Mayor Durwood Swanger, the complex has been a cornerstone of youth baseball since its construction back in the 1980s. The renovations began in July 2024 with improvements including new turf on all five fields, upgraded restrooms and concession stands, and a turf-covered common area for families and fans.

Big Bonus Here:
Each field now features shaded seating and covered bullpens to enhance comfort and functionality. Very nice!
The renovation was designed and completed with help from MTG Engineering and Symmetry Sports Construction.
Texarkana, Texas City Manager David Orr said the project is deeply personal and vital to the local sports scene;
“These fields have meant so much to my family… now, with these improvements, we look forward to watching more kids develop their skills and create memories.”
The complex opens to the public at 5:00 PM for tours. Concessions will be available (cash only), and opening ceremonies will begin an hour later.
In the coming weeks, Texarkana native and artist Will Bryant will also add custom artwork to the complex as part of a partnership with Texas Runs on Water and The Texas Lyceum.
