We hear them every Wednesday at noon, and then we don't think about them until bad weather comes our way. What am I talking about? Texarkana's weather sirens. We will soon have new sirens.

Did you know our weather sirens were installed back in the 1970s? At first, that doesn't seem that long ago until you realize that is 50 years ago!

According to KTBS new weather sirens were going to be installed in 2020 but the COVID pandemic got in the way like it did for so many other things.

No more repairing the old ones!  These babies will all be brand new, all 13 of them. and will be located all around the Texarkana area. These will also be state-of-the-art sirens where they will be able to sense lightning and also be activated remotely. They will also have the ability to activate just by information they receive from the National Weather Service! Pretty Cool Huh?

Only 3 of the 13 sirens have been replaced so far and the replacement of all the weather sirens in Texarkana won't be finished until sometime this summer.

As we head into spring and storm season, do not rely solely on these weather sirens. In today's world, we can stay informed about weather situations easier and faster than ever before with our cell phones. These sirens are really meant for people who are outside and are not aware of dangerous weather heading our way.
