City of Texarkana Begins Street Pre-Treatment Ahead of Winter Weather
The City of Texarkana, Texas, is preparing for the potentially dangerous winter weather expected this weekend, with Public Works crews beginning pre-treatment of city streets today, Thursday, January 22.
Texarkana's Priority Areas Targeted First
Public Works crews will focus first on areas considered most vulnerable to freezing conditions, which would include bridges, overpasses, low-lying roadways, hilly sections, and key emergency routes. Once those priority areas are treated, crews will expand efforts to include other major commercial and residential streets across the city.
Texarkana City officials say pre-treating roadways is an important step in reducing hazardous driving conditions, but it is not a guarantee that roads will remain ice-free.
Drivers Urged to Use Caution
While street pre-treatment can help limit ice buildup, motorists should still expect slick conditions and icy patches, particularly during periods of freezing temperatures. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow ample extra travel time, and use caution when traveling during hazardous weather conditions.
